Plant Breeding and Genetics Badge
The Plant Breeding and Genetics Professional Badge is considered a non-academic credit program for professional development. This means that learners do not enroll through the university’s official admission process and, thus, will not receive official transcripts upon completion of the badge. Unlike academic courses, modules in the badge program are based on learners showing mastery of and competency in the material.
The modules in the Plant Breeding and Genetics Professional Badge program cannot be transferred toward an academic credit program at UNL or any other institution.
Homeowner Turfgrass Management Badge
This curriculum introduces learners to the best practices that support successful, science based lawncare. The course begins with an overview of the turfgrass industry and key terminology used to describe turf stands, giving learners a strong foundation for understanding how lawns grow and respond to management. Learners will examine how home irrigation systems work and learn to identify common problems, sources of water loss, and opportunities to improve efficiency.
The course emphasizes matching irrigation delivery to precipitation, seasonal conditions, and turfgrass growth needs to reduce waste while maintaining turf health. Mowing fundamentals will be discussed, including recommended mowing heights, mowing frequency, and the importance of properly maintained equipment. Safety considerations related to mowing equipment will also be discussed. Learners will explore essential turfgrass nutrients and how these nutrients influence turf growth and development.
Regenerative Agriculture Badge
The Regenerative Agriculture Learning Hub is a collaborative program led by Nebraska Extension and USDA NRCS, under the leadership of Carolina Córdova, lead principal investigator. The program connects farmers and agricultural professionals with practical, research-based strategies to strengthen soil health and farm resilience, supported by a team of extension specialists and NRCS partners committed to advancing regenerative practices across Nebraska.
Offered virtually, this two-month program provides a comprehensive introduction to regenerative agriculture, including its economic, environmental and management benefits. Participants will engage with key topics relevant to producers across Nebraska, with an emphasis on real-world application and systems-based thinking.
